Poker Theory, Chaos Theory and Nuclear War
Poker Is Life Is Poker
Poker. I was taught to play poker when I was but a wee little boy. About 7 I was. By my parents. Not Texas Holdem mind you, but, Poker none the less!
When you watch people play Poker, and you have played for awhile yourself, you begin to notice things. Personally, I think Poker theory is a great theory for life in general. Why? Well here is a small example.
Lets say a person is talking to the workplace “know all”. The “know all” is talking to the person about nothing in particular. Every time the person opens their mouth to speak or voice an opinion, the “know all” has a better answer, or knows something else about what the conversation is about. Infuriating !!!
The “know all” is just basically “coming over the top” as in poker! He doesn’t know when to fold his hand ! Obviously, the “know all” has never listened to “The Gambler by Kenny Rogers”.
“You got to know when to hold em, know when to fold em, know when to walk away, know when to run”.
The only way to beat people like this is, is to play the game as a game of poker. Call when they call, re raise when they raise, come over the top when they go all in ! Eventually, they fold !!!
Think of it like the stock market. Boom or Bust! It just depends where you invest your money !!!
People do it all the time. Children, sports teams, groups, and so do Governments. Governments have played the game of Poker many many times. And they are still playing. Chaos, utter chaos.
Governments just keep raising the pot. Like an out of control population. Exponentially raising the re raise ad infinitum. Heres an example.
Okay, lets say that Government A, is having a dispute with Government B, over item X. Government A has been dealt a pair of Kings. So, with a big hand like that, they bet. Government B in the mean time, sees that they hold a pair of Aces. So they call. Government A does not like this action, and raises. In effect, raising the stakes of the game. Government B, holds their ground and re raises. Government A, again, does not like this action and posts a re raise. Now we come to the flop, turn and river (for the sake of the example). Government B, has been dealt three Aces, “Trips”. Meanwhile Government A has been dealt four of a kind Kings. And wins the pot!
Sound silly? Well not when you think of it like this.
Population Dynamics and Chaos Theory show us that populations of little beasties rise exponentially in good conditions. Much like the Human Race has done. Raising and re raising all the time. The population of the little beasties at some stage reaches a point where they all die. Sad, but true! A sort of mini Armageddon for the little beasties. A “Bad Beat” if you will. Now think of the Government example above, but instead of wining a pot, they throw nuclear missiles.
And the only ones that survive a game like that, are the short stacked. Because they got up and left the table a long time ago !!!
And, like it says in the Bible, “The meek shall inherit the Earth”! (Matthew, ch5 v5)
Stumbling through the rubble,
My heads in a spin,
I hear them fighting,
The war no one can win.
